Erin & Ray :: River Walk

September 2, 2010

reiser080810_0081In the dizzying summer months we’ve had, I am so happy about my couples with upcoming weddings.  I’ve always been giddy about weddings but from my new perspective as a bride, I have found that I’m just having the time of my life sharing my wedding planning stories and adventures with my couples!

I met up with Erin & Ray at the Roswell Mill to stroll along the Chattahoochee with them in the park. I had just shot a wedding here the weekend before so it was a little bit deja vu for me!  Though my wedding couple didn’t have time to go all the way down to the river. ;o)  Oddly enough, it’s been almost 8 years since I had been down to the river here at this park and I was surprised by the construction of these fabulous walk ways and bridges.  The overlook landing that gives a spectacular view of the waterfall is really breathtaking!reiser1

We stopped on the way back down at this textured rock wall.  I love the lichens and vines dangling…reiser080810_0021

Down at the river bank, I asked Erin & Ray if they wanted to wade into the water. After all, he was in shorts and her in a skirt!  And it was HOT?! Right?  Yay! They went for it!  Troopers…

I just went in – pants, shoes and all.  I was wearing my Merrell canyoneering shoes for walking on slippery rocks!reiser080810_0035reiser2After a casual stroll back up to the top, we paused behind this abandoned mill structure for a little privacy…

And finally, the coolness of the bridge.  Cool for photos and cool for shade. ;o)reiser080810_0153reiser04

Thanks Erin & Ray!  I am so excited about your wedding day – OMG, this month!!!!

Now we get into the really hot part of summer!  I think technically the “Dog Days Of Summer” are later in the season but the title seemed perfect for my fun engagement session with Jennifer & Erin and their adorable fur-babies!  Yes, it was hot and we brought water for the pups and they even had their own little shaded carrier to hang out in when not in the shots!

When I met up with them, I was actually pretty excited and inspired by my own recent engagement session.  I had just come back from Mississippi where Steven and I had our session with our two dogs.  Some of the images Will captured for us were still fresh in my mind so I was looking forward to using some “doggie eye view” angles and having fun incorporating their precious babies!tran062210_0018tran1

tran062210_0039This area in Alpharetta was perfect for a session as nearby within walking distance was a beautiful jogging trail and wooded park.  My favorite feature was the long wooden bridge here.

A little farther down, another bridge with some great lines for perspective!tran062210_0101tran062210_0093

Now we headed back to the main promenade where they were getting ready for a foodie festival.  We had to work fast to finish up – not only to get out of the way of the festival that would soon fill the area with tons of people but because we were all beginning to melt!  Erin was a super trooper for changing into jeans for us. ;o)tran062210_0137tran062210_0139tran2tran3tran4

One last special request!  Jennifer is jumping for joy over their upcoming wedding!  I can’t wait either…;o)  It will be here before you know it!

Summer lovin’ – they’ve got it!  Octavia & Kane – one of my hottest couples – made me feel even hotter on this steamy engagement session!  I applaud them for braving this heat wave for their session – it was a record high for early June but they made it look so cool, didn’t they?  No complaints, just smiles…and well, sultry looks.

They are going to be so easy to shoot on their wedding day since they both not only look like models, they move like they really know what they’re doing! And the love is so evident…anderson060910_0055

They showed me this great corridor in the warehouse office district near Rathbun’s. Great grundgy architecture and rusted metal elements were fun to play with.  Also, there were little nooks and crannies with gardens and dappled sunlight.

Just outside I spotted this crumbling brick wall. We braved the direct sun for a couple of fashion shots. They ROCKED IT!anderson060910_0122anderson060910_0129

And you can’t miss the graffiti in this neighborhood.  It’s actually art -

At this point, we had to find some shade – all three of us!  Just outside the compound was just enough of a patch to sneak into.andersonv4anderson060910_0202andersonv5

I can’t wait for the wedding in September when these two will be ALL dressed up and gorgeous!

I have shot soooo many engagement sessions at Stone Mountain so when Meredith and Todd wanted to have their session in this park, I had to ask my standard request:  “Is this place special to you?”  They answered with a resounding “YES!” This is where Todd proposed to Meredith!  The magical location where they decided to spend the rest of their lives together is right here at Stone Mountain Park! So, of course I gave in. ;)

It could not have been a prettier spring day.  And as such, the park was very crowded so we were sharing this location with two other photographers!  One had a family of about 15 people to shoot – whew!  After the shot above on the Grist Mill bridge, I came around the corner to spy on them giggling and hugging – a completely natural moment.  And when they are facing the camera? Man, they are SO photogenic!  Kinda makes me cry a little…in a good way.

banksv3

I love using the stone walkway across the stream and it was so busy, we had to wait a few moments for the area to clear.  After they got out to the center, Todd almost lost his balance!  Love these expressions!  These are shot from the same bridge above..

A special request from mom, with the Grist Mill behind them…

banks042510_0060

Next we headed to another favorite location – the covered bridge! It was just down a path nearby that Todd actually proposed.  So many ways to use this quaint architecture. But I like the criss crosses in B&W the best…banks042510_0079

banks042510_0073

Now usually, we go to the top of the lawn to shoot some pics with the carving on the face of the mountain.  Remember I said it was busy? Well, the park was also the site of a HUGEMUNGOUS Latin-American Festival and the lawn was completely full of tents…and loud music heard all over the park. Not the prettiest view, eh? So I got down low an’ shot up high!  I love the clouds that day!banks042510_0108My request in going to Stone Mountain was to take them to a little garden off the beaten path.  I found this area a few years ago and was struck by the cool rock formations as the base of the mountain.  It’s a natural formation that creates a great set.banks042510_0127banksv2banks042510_0152

The light was also really beautiful under there from the sun hitting the rock face and bouncing back down to this area.

Thanks Todd & Meredith for a really fun time and we’re almost there!

forstot032710_0206So much fun!!!!! Here they are, my 10-10-10 couple, Jody & Matt!

And to think, I almost missed out on shooting their wedding because I wanted to get married on 10-10-10!  When Steven and I got engaged last October, we contacted our venue but sadly, they were already booked for that date.  I still wanted a Sunday so we chose 10-03-10 instead.  Just days later, I got a call from Jody asking if I was available for 10-10-10 – and lucky for both of us, I was!  See, Jody is the sister of my March 1, 09 bride, Abby AND aunt to the adorable baby Anna Kate that I’ve photographed for her first year growing up. Anna Kate will be the flower girl!  YAY!!!!!

Matt proposed to Jody on top of the Georgian Terrace Hotel last year so it was one of the choice locations for their engagement session.

We started at Georgia Tech, Matt’s alma mater.  This is also where they met (on campus that is) three years ago!

forstot032710_0020

A little Photoshop manipulation on the stair numbers…forstot032710_0057Next we headed over to Matt’s fraternity house for a few fun shots with the “star” step.  If a girl steps on the star, she has to kiss the youngest brother in the house!  Will she kiss him?  (watch the slideshow below to find out!)forstotv1After a quick change in the house, we decided to go to their venue, Summerour.  While it wasn’t open, there were some fabulous places outside to shoot. Love the arches!!!forstot032710_0116forstot032710_0165forstotv3forstot032710_0146After a bite to eat, we landed at the Georgian and went up top to the pool for the skyline shot above.  Then I wanted to do something with this staircase I “discovered” last fall.forstot032710_0219And then at the very top of this staircase, there was a little room…I loved the light coming in here!forstotv2Thanks to Jody and Matt for such a fun day!  I can’t wait to come back from my mini-moon and shoot your wedding!

Wow!  I don’t know what is harder – editing a session where the couple is as gorgeous as Abbey & Zach or narrowing down to the best when almost every frame is FANTASTIC!  I think I must have been on candid camera – I just can’t believe how easy it was to shoot these two.  It’s as if they’ve had an engagement session before – either that or both of them are professional models and didn’t tell me when we met.

hoch110809_0015hoch110809_0022

We couldn’t have asked for better weather that day. Even though Abbey and I were both sniffling a bit (isn’t everyone nowadays?), she still was just glowing.  What makes my day is when a couple is having as much fun as they did.  I hardly realized how much time we spent it was so much fun!

hoch110809_0139hoch110809_0193

Can you believe this is NOT posed?!  I just had them wander a good bit away and snapped them interacting.  It’s like a freakin’ engagement ring ad!

hoch110809_0126

The thing is, we photographers WISH we could be there when the sparks between you first happened – with you unaware we are shooting, of course.  It was a magical moment we can only hope to recreate with your engagement session.  With Abbey & Zach, there was no pretending for them – they got right into that moment and at times acted as if  I wasn’t there at all.  Other times, they would ham it up – obviously, that’s their personality (which I happen to LOVE) but you can be just yourself.  I want to capture what is special about each couple!

hoch110809_0154hoch110809_0084hoch110809_0092

Oh, and of course we have to show off the ring! ;o)hoch110809_0067hoch110809_0245

Thank you so much guys for making my job easy and FUN!  Check out their amazing slideshow of the session below!

Claire & Steve – Engaged

October 27, 2009

green100309_0126What a beautiful day! On what must have been one of the few sunny days we’ll have this record , rainy October, I joined Claire and Steve for their engagement session at Claire’s parents’ home.green100309_0024

Around every corner of their home, I was continuously amazed by the landscape. Claire’s mom is a master gardener and this wonderful property is a dream to shoot on!Around every corner of their home, I was continuously amazed by the landscape.
